Diverse Solving Disciplines Anchor Tamil Nadu Cube Challenge 2024English

Inside Sir Pt Thiyagrayar Kalaiyarangam, the competition tables hummed with continuous activity as solvers rotated through distinct mechanical formats. A field of 93 competitors gathered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on June 2, 2024, bringing together both seasoned competitors and newcomers. The one-day cubing competition demanded adaptability, requiring participants to switch between the classic six-sided challenge, the rapid bursts of smaller formats, and the tetrahedral turns of the Pyraminx across six intense rounds.

The range of disciplines across the schedule meant that technical skill had to translate across vastly different geometric puzzles. This year, Tamil Nadu Cube Challenge 2024 featured three distinct events, pushing solvers to calibrate their fingertricks from standard layers to triangular edges. Speedcubing at this level tests both dexterity and split-second spatial awareness, and the variety kept the venue engaged from the morning heats straight through to the afternoon finals.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube contest drew 91 competitors over two full rounds of action. Naren Ramesh took the title with a winning average of 7.47 seconds, backed by a best single of 7.13 seconds in the final. The 3x3 results remained tight at the very top of the standings, as Ashwin Narendran secured second place with an average of 7.53 seconds, while Mohith B earned third place on the podium with an 8.82 average.

The Pyraminx event offered a striking change of pace with its four triangular faces and swift corner adjustments. Naren Ramesh captured his second victory of the day, leading a field of 64 competitors with a decisive 2.74 winning average and a single of 1.64 seconds. Vishal Mohanraju claimed the second spot on the podium with a 4.08 average, narrowly edging Arun Kannan, who finished in third place with a 4.12 average.

In the 2x2x2 Cube event, explosive speed took center stage as 73 competitors navigated two rapid rounds. Aayush Sriram Bharadwaj secured victory with a sub-two average of 1.99 seconds, also recording a best single of 1.71 seconds. Naren Ramesh rounded out his impressive multi-event day by taking second place with a 2.43 average, while Prashanth Swaminathan collected third place with an average of 2.85 seconds.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across their chosen events. Anirudh M delivered a massive breakthrough, lowering his Pyraminx personal best to 4.15 seconds from an earlier 21.03, improving his 2x2x2 Cube mark to 5.84 from 8.59, and taking his 3x3x3 Cube best down to 19.82 from 27.08. Tapesh Chintada logged first career official attempts in the 2x2x2 Cube with 13.69 and Pyraminx with 16.54, while shaving his 3x3x3 Cube best to 32.70 from 45.53. Luv Kumar recorded a first official 2x2x2 Cube result of 3.50 seconds, dropped his Pyraminx personal best to 4.96 from 9.73, and cut his 3x3x3 Cube single to 16.40 from 18.71. P Siddharth completed his first official 3x3x3 Cube solve in 42.04 seconds, dropped his Pyraminx mark to 11.39 from 16.14, and improved his 2x2x2 Cube time to 8.17 seconds.

The progress continued through the ranks as Akil Chandiran achieved a Pyraminx personal best of 4.89 seconds compared to a previous 10.20, alongside a 3x3x3 Cube best of 19.62. Mithran R A tackled two new disciplines, recording a first official Pyraminx time of 9.79 seconds and a first 3x3x3 Cube solve of 26.58 seconds. Johan Peter posted a first official Pyraminx attempt of 7.79 seconds while cutting his 2x2x2 Cube best to 2.77 from 5.46 and his 3x3x3 Cube best to 17.80. Raghunandhan Kumaran lowered his Pyraminx mark to 4.60 seconds from 8.31 and brought his 2x2x2 Cube best to 3.94 seconds.

The global standard of speed cubing was evident throughout the single-day gathering, with India earning eight podium places and the United Kingdom claiming one. Every round of solving underscored the focus required to master multiple mechanisms in a single WCA competition. Whether manipulating a classic Rubik's Cube or racing through a Pyraminx scramble, participants demonstrated sharp preparation across the board.

As the final timers were cleared at Tamil Nadu Cube Challenge 2024, the gathering closed out a dynamic showcase of puzzle variety. Competitors from across the region walked away with personal breakthroughs, new official event marks, and podium hardware. The high standard of execution across three separate puzzle formats provided a memorable chapter for solving in Chennai as the community looks forward to the next season of play.
