One hundred competitors gathered at Salle Chabrières on July 1 and July 2 for a packed weekend of speedcubing in Oullins, France. Across 20 rounds of action, the Lyon Last Layer Open 2023 provided an intense platform where personal development shared centre stage with elite triumphs. From foundational twisty puzzles to the most demanding big cubes, participants showed the depth of their preparation through steep performance gains and milestone attempts during this mid-season 2023 meeting.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew a full field of 100 entrants across three stages of competition. Juliette Sébastien demonstrated supreme consistency on the standard Rubik's Cube, capturing first place with a 6.39 winning average after posting a best single solve of 5.77. Pierre Meunier secured second place with an average of 7.44, narrowly edging Mathis Luc who took third on a 7.45 mark. These decisive 3x3 results capped an impressive display of accuracy under tournament pressure in the French cubing competition circuit.

Sébastien also showcased remarkable versatility on the twelve-sided Megaminx, heading a 47-person field with a winning average of 42.35 and a single of 36.50. Ulysse Merlin followed in second place with a mark of 43.60, while Ilona Ansel completed the podium at 45.50. He also slashed his 4x4x4 Cube personal best by 30.8 percent down to 1:38.25 and improved his Megaminx mark by 69.7 percent, setting a new personal standard of 3:00.12 compared to a prior 9:54.48. Meanwhile, Cédric Lemire took on 11 events, achieving a Pyraminx personal best of 8.61 that was 27.2 percent faster than his previous 11.83, alongside his first ever attempt in the 7x7x7 Cube with a 4:17.61 mark and a 2:50.82 in his first 6x6x6 Cube attempt to finish 16th in the 7x7x7.
