Records Fall in Quito as Ponce and Local Stars Shine at Copa Soledad Baby Libros 2026English

Three national records redefined the competitive landscape in Quito, Ecuador, as 52 competitors gathered on May 9, 2026, for a high-stakes day of solving. Hosted at Domicilio Privado, Copa Soledad Baby Libros 2026 provided the stage for nine rounds of action across six different events. Speedcubing talent from Ecuador, the United States, and Germany went head-to-head, creating an intense atmosphere where precision at the solving stations yielded groundbreaking milestones across both speed and blindfolded disciplines.

Anthony Gerard Álvarez Ludeña authored the day's most historic performances by establishing two national records for Ecuador. In the multi-blind arena, solving numerous puzzles entirely from memory, he delivered a flawless national record single of 13/13 in 52:29 to seize gold. He carried that momentum straight into the classic 3x3x3 Cube, where his runner-up finishing average of 8.05 set another national record. His extraordinary results anchored a dominant weekend for local competitors across multiple categories.

The 3x3 results at Copa Soledad Baby Libros 2026 ultimately saw Patrick Ponce take top honors in the premier Rubik's Cube division. Ponce delivered a lightning-fast 7.36 winning average across three rounds featuring 50 competitors, backed by the day's overall best single of 5.05. Álvarez Ludeña secured the silver medal with his 8.05 national mark, while Fabrizzio Alejandro Peñafiel Mena earned bronze with a 9.65 average, completing a fiercely contested podium in the flagship event.

Juan Pablo Suárez Narváez added to the record tally in the Skewb event, capturing victory with a blistering national record average of 4.39. In a sharp single-round contest featuring 17 competitors, Suárez Narváez posted a best single of 3.04 to outpace silver medalist Alex Loor, who averaged 5.73. Sebastián Mateo España Chango rounded out the podium in third place with a 6.00 average, capping an electrifying display of diagonal turning at this WCA competition.

Patrick Ponce claimed a second victory in 3x3x3 One-Handed, posting a winning average of 10.29 and a single of 8.22 in the single-round contest of 22 competitors. Jakob Schöley of Germany took silver with a mark of 14.89, while Matías José Morales López took third with 18.00. Meanwhile, the 2x2x2 Cube featured 38 competitors across two rounds, where Raúl Gómez emerged victorious with a 3.08 average, edging out España Chango's 3.53 and Peñafiel Mena's 4.05 in a rapid final.
