Luke Garrett Secures Five Gold Medals at Brown County Blitz 2026English

Eighty-seven competitors gathered on March 29, 2026, at The Seasons Lodge in Nashville, Indiana, USA, turning a single day into a relentless showcase of agility. While the pen-and-paper quiet of Fewest Moves challenges competitors to write out efficient solutions turn by turn away from the ticking clock, the schedule here embraced pure, unfiltered speed. With 13 rounds spread across six distinct puzzles, the cubing competition moved at a rapid pace from the morning qualifiers to the evening finals.

The 3x3x3 Cube, the iconic Rubik's Cube event, drew an imposing field of 85 competitors across three rounds. Luke Garrett commanded the bracket, producing a winning average of 5.69 seconds and securing the round single of 4.51 seconds. His consistency kept him well clear of Chris Yeager, who locked in second place with an 8.16 average. Thamaneeswar Sathesh Kumar completed the 3x3 results on the podium, taking third with an 8.81 average.

Garrett continued his sweep across the alternate disciplines, dominating both short and specialised puzzles. In the 3x3x3 One-Handed final, Garrett captured the top step with a 9.80 average and an 8.21 single, besting Ben Edwards with 13.91 and Chris Yeager with 14.94. Garrett also claimed the Pyraminx title with an average of 2.62 seconds, leading Cyrus Gearhart at 2.82 and Jayden Clark at 3.23. In Skewb, Garrett earned gold in 3.67 seconds over Sathesh Kumar at 3.88 and Emery McFeeter at 4.41.

The 2x2x2 Cube proved exceptionally competitive at Brown County Blitz 2026, featuring a massive slate of rapid times. Garrett won the event with a 1.44 average, having previously posted a 0.85 single and a 1.14 average in the event rounds. Sathesh Kumar claimed the silver medal with a 1.63 average, posting a 1.27 single and a 1.56 average along the way. Joseph Meidal claimed the third spot on the podium with a 2.80 average after registering marks of 2.29 for single and 2.48 for average.

The Clock event provided the sole break in Garrett's title sweep, courtesy of a standout performance by Thamaneeswar Sathesh Kumar. Sathesh Kumar delivered a decisive winning average of 4.66 seconds, alongside the event's best single of 3.90 seconds. Roland Ababat took second place with a 4.86 average, while Garrett collected third with a 4.94 average. That victory gave India four podium placements across the day, adding to the fourteen earned by United States competitors.

Beyond the championship podiums, the official WCA competition was defined by breakthrough marks from competitors across all experience levels. Weston Cuba entered six events, securing a 2x2x2 personal best of 2.75 seconds that was 60.3 percent faster than his previous mark of 6.92, while also taking his first career attempts in Clock at 14.32 and Skewb at 9.14. Alexander Burke finished 16th in Skewb while improving his personal best to 4.20 seconds, a 55.6 percent leap from 9.45, alongside a Clock personal best of 13.72 and a first attempt in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 23.98. Roman DeLong reached 11th place in 2x2x2, lowered his Skewb best by 59.5 percent to 4.28 seconds, took his One-Handed personal best down 52.1 percent to 17.39 seconds, and logged a Clock debut of 24.30. Quincy Handel lowered their 3x3x3 best by 38.3 percent down to 23.72 seconds, while attempting 2x2x2 and Pyraminx for the first time.

First-time official attempts highlighted the true depth of the speedcubing field. Jack James made his first attempts at One-Handed in 1:22.65 and Skewb in 21.50 while slicing his 3x3x3 best by 39.1 percent down to 21.83 seconds. Jacob Moran took on six events, shaving 35.5 percent off his Pyraminx best to hit 8.31 seconds while recording initial marks in Clock at 16.26 and One-Handed at 1:15.50.
